In 1984, Luciana Giardino and Laura Calzà, the actually president and scientific director of IRET, constituted their first working group.
In 1987, they founded the Center of Physiopathology of the Nervous System at the Hesperia Hospital in Modena.
In 1999, the group moved at the University of Bologna, and the Center of Pathophysiology of the Nervous System entered into an agreement with DIMORFIPA.
In February 2006, IRET was founded. Mr. Ezio Baldazzi donated to IRET a plot of land of 10.000 square meters in the City of Ozzano Emilia (Bologna, Italy) to build a research laboratory that will become the new headquarters of the Foundation.
There is an active collaboration with the professors Tiziana Antonelli and Sergio Tanganelli, University of Ferrara. They share research projects on Parkinson's disease, ataxia and Alzheimer’s disease.
IRET has an agreement with Health Sciences and Technologies -Interdepartmental Center for Industrial Research (HST-ICIR), University of Bologna, and with the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Section of Pharmacology, University of Ferrara.
